Are you worried about cavities, black teeth or hole in teeth? Modern dental treatment facilities allow us to restore a decayed tooth as good as natural. RCT is the key factor. Thanks to recent advancements now it is possible to save badly damaged teeth too.In this post I'll be explaining what's RCT, indications, do's and don'ts after RCT.
Root Canal Treatment or RCT is performed when cavity extends deep into a tooth to a level beyond which it can not be restored just by a filling. At this point the tooth gets decayed and damaged significantly.
Root Canal Treatment
RCT is performed when the nerve or pulp of the tooth becomes infected and inflamed due to a deep cavity, a cracked or broken tooth, or due to an injury to the tooth. Saving the natural tooth with RCT helps to restore normal biting force and sensation, gives efficient chewing, it also helps to protect other teeth from excessive wear. Also, loss of tooth has its own set of disadvantages ranging from improper chewing to migration of teeth.
During RCT endodontist removes carious/decayed part of tooth and opens up the pulp chamber and canals in root. Using specialized instruments and equipments root canals are cleaned upto the apex and filled up. After that access restoration is placed to fill the cavity and restore the decayed part and crown is placed on the tooth . If required painkiller and anti-biotics are prescribed.
Tips For Care After RCT
A treated and restored tooth can last a lifetime with proper care. Root canals have a high success rate. Here are a few ways to take care of you teeth after a root canal:
Avoid chewing on hard foods - chewing on hard food can cause tooth to break and harm the tooth fillings.
Practice good oral hygiene - brush your teeth twice a day, and floss at least once. Taking care of your teeth can help prevent future problems.
Visit your dentist regularly - regular cleanings and examinations by dentist helps to prevent and detect cavities early.
